What happens at a dental cleaning or exam?
Routine dental cleanings and dental exams are an important part of preventive health care. During your dental visit you will have a thorough cleaning and examination by the hygienist and the dentist respectively. After your teeth are cleaned, we will be checking your head, neck and mouth for current or future issues. Outside of the mouth we will be looking for abnormalities, swellings, and TMJ issues. Inside the mouth we will be looking for cavities, early detection of wisdom tooth problems, gum disease, abnormal soft tissue areas and do an oral cancer screening during every exam. A dental exam occasionally may also include dental X-rays (radiographs) or other diagnostic procedures when needed.
